Renewable Energy Sources

Photovoltaic Systems – Sources

With the use of photovoltaic systems there are significant benefits for the environment and society. Benefits for the consumer, for the energy markets and sustainable development.

Photovoltaic systems are one of the most promising technologies of the new era dawning in the energy sector; it is increasingly characterized by small decentralized applications in a liberalized market environment.

The photovoltaic panels which convert sunlight into electricity, are considered the ideal energy conversion systems as they use the most available source of energy on the planet and produce electricity.

Advantages of Photovoltaic Systems:

They can be placed on plots, roofs (flat or sloping) or in building facades. Supplied in various sizes and can substitute part of a tile roof (respectively reducing costs) or glazing in a façade. They may also play the role of a shading system over windows (and thus helping to reduce the costs for extra air conditioning).

Types of photovoltaic systems:

1.A power generation system with solar panels can be used in conjunction with Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC).

2. Alternatively, a photovoltaic system can be a stand-alone system that covers the entire energy needs of a building or for commercial use. For continuous customer assistance, the installation should include a storage unit (batteries) and energy management.

Photovoltaic pumping systems and recycling of water in swimming pools

The solar photovoltaic water pumping systems are the best solution for homeowners and commercial enterprises that have a pool and want to minimize the cost of operation and maintenance of the pool.

The solar pump is connected directly to the solar cells, which convert sunlight into electricity.
The main characteristics of solar photovoltaic water pumping systems are:

Solar Water Heater

A correct size system and if properly positioned can reduce up to 70% of the energy needed for domestic hot water.

Solar panels are the most used technology for the production of hot water from renewable energy sources.

They convert solar radiation into thermal energy and consist of a collector which attracts solar radiation and a storage tank for the hot water until use. For the closed circuit water heaters, a changer is required for the heat transfer from the heated fluid (usually oil) to water.

The main types of solar water heaters are:
